The BW Circle K service club received a raft of awards at the recent statewide Ohio District Circle K Convention.
BW's award-winning Circle K members at statewide District Convention
Baldwin Wallace University is home to one of the best Circle K service clubs in the nation and has the awards to prove it.
At this year's statewide District Convention (DCON), the BW Circle K club took home a total of 18 awards (seven team and 11 individual), with nine first-place wins.
BW Circle K club president Claire Fischer '25 says, "We are really proud of the work we accomplish, and it feels great to be recognized on the state level for this dedication."
Fischer is most proud of the Daniel J. Romanello Club Achievement Award, honoring achievement in service, leadership and fellowship. According to the Ohio District website, "This prestigious award recognizes significant contributions to campus and community, exceptional pride demonstrated through promotional materials or activities, and outstanding social events. Additionally, it acknowledges exceptional efforts in fostering Kiwanis Family interactions, including hosting and participating in Kiwanis Family activities."
As the fifth largest club in the U.S., BW Circle K completed over 800 hours of community service and raised over $900 for charities last year through a team full of dedicated students with a passion for helping others.
Student projects have included establishing a campus Little Free Library, volunteering at the Cleveland Book Bank, Operation Christmas Child, campus blood drives and partnering with other organizations on campus. One such collaboration, with Active Minds, supported mental health awareness with "Service and Self Care" and "Spring into Service" as part of this semester's first week.
There are more projects featured on the BW Circle K International Instagram page.
Students are the heart of the organization on and off the BW campus. Since 2021, the BW Circle K club has grown exponentially from 15 members to 50. Fischer adds that they are a tight-knit group, and, "Whenever we get to go out into the community and do hands-on work, we take the chance."
The advisor of BW's Circle K club, biology professor Dr. Karen Munroe, has led the organization for the past 12 years, and the group brings home statewide recognition year after year.
Munroe was a member of Circle K International when she was in college, and it was at a state district convention that she met her husband. They've been married for 25 years.
The BW Circle K club is continuing to grow and to find new ways to add to the goodness of the world.
The group's latest project was a trip to the Cleveland Book Bank to help sort donated books into categories that are distributed to children and schools in need.
