Aspiring physicians and dentists looking for outstanding undergraduate college preparation and streamlined entry to medical or dental school can benefit from Baldwin Wallace's newly expanded early assurance programs.
Both the pre-medical and pre-dental early acceptance programs offer students a guaranteed seat* in a future matriculating medical school or dental school class.
The medical school early assurance and dental school early assurance programs are designed for high school seniors and BW students. They enable individuals to apply early for a seat and receive provisional acceptance by a BW partner school if certain requirements are met.
In addition to receiving early acceptance, students in the two healthcare programs can benefit from BW's proven record of success.
BW program director Dr. Colleen Nye believes high-achieving students interested in pursuing medical or dental professions can look to Baldwin Wallace to jumpstart their career preparation.
While some colleges offer affiliate programs with one university, BW has had ongoing partnerships with three affiliates — Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUHCOM), the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOCOM).
"BW has a long history of success in preparing students for medical careers. There is the long-standing pathway of attending BW for undergraduate study then applying to medical school as a college junior," explained Nye.
"With an eye towards filling a critical need in the medical community, BW began another pathway to medical school. Eleven years ago, we started an early assurance medical school partnership program for students interested in becoming primary care physicians. Graduates of that program are now successful physicians and residents," noted Nye.
"We still have those same three medical school affiliates, but now the program has been expanded to include specialties beyond primary care," she added.
BW's early assurance medical school program is a premier choice for students pursuing a medical degree in primary or specialty medicine. Partnering with OUHCOM, LECOM and NEOCOM, BW offers a rigorous curriculum, personalized faculty mentoring and extensive hands-on research opportunities that parallel a medical school experience.
Also beneficial to students is BW's round-the-clock access to tech-advanced laboratories for research, a cadaver lab and opportunities to engage in collaborative research with faculty starting in a student's first year.
Nye went on to say that BW also offers a dental school early assurance program as another pathway to dental school. In addition to attending BW and then applying to dental school in their junior year, students can seek early acceptance with a BW partner. BW is an undergraduate dental school partner with LECOM.
Aspiring dentists can benefit from BW's strong foundation in the sciences, which includes comprehensive coursework, access to bench space, and internship and research opportunities at Cleveland's world-class healthcare centers.
In addition to generous scholarship and grant opportunities, BW is part of the Choose Ohio First STEM Scholars Program, which is open to Ohio residents who are entering Baldwin Wallace in the fall as a first-year student or transfer student.
Students apply to the Choose Ohio First program, which also offers the Choose Ohio First scholarship — enabling students to potentially receive an annual, renewable scholarship of up to $6,500 for eligible majors.
*A guaranteed seat is contingent upon successful completion of all program requirements set forth by an affiliate university, including, but not limited to, the completion of a bachelor's degree from BW. Acceptances are provisional until final acceptance to medical school is granted by one of BW's affiliate institutions — OUHCOM, LECOM or NEOMED.
