Berea, Ohio, has earned a spot as one of the safest college towns in the United States, according to a recent ranking by research.com. The home of Baldwin Wallace University was listed #10 on the list, a nod to its commitment to safety and its welcoming environment for college students.

With a remarkably low violent crime rate, Berea is a peaceful and secure place for both living and studying, research.com notes. Students from across the country are drawn to its vibrant campus, renowned Conservatory of Performing Arts and strong liberal arts programs.

Gary Black, BW safety and security director, highlighted the significance of the ranking, stating, "BW benefits from our strong working relationship with Berea police and emergency services."

Berea's proximity to Cleveland offers the best of both worlds: the quiet, close-knit atmosphere of a suburban town with easy access to all the opportunities of a major metropolitan area. Whether it's exploring cultural venues, finding internships or simply enjoying the dynamic atmosphere of downtown Cleveland, students at BW benefit from the advantages of being just minutes away from the city.

BW student Katie Plecko '25 shares that she's not surprised Berea was recognized as a safe college town, noting, "The sense of community here is strong, and safety is always a priority. It's just the atmosphere of this place — everyone looks out for each other."

Known as the "Grindstone Capital of the World," Berea grew up around stone quarries, which were used in the construction of many iconic buildings across North America. Today, many of the old quarries are beautiful lakes and parks.

Add it all up, and Berea is an ideal place for students to thrive as they seek a place where safety, education and opportunity intersect.
