Baldwin Wallace track and field alumna Melanie Winters '16 has been selected for the coveted honor of representing TEAM USA in the Thorpe Cup in Dallas this week.
The USA Track & Field (USATF) Thorpe Cup, which begins on July 9, pits the top decathlon and heptathlon athletes from the United States and Germany. Teams are composed of up to seven men and seven women.
Winters, who is making her first appearance representing TEAM USA, was a 13-time Division III All-American, 12-time Ohio Athletic Conference indoor champion, 12-time OAC outdoor champion and the holder of 13 BW indoor and outdoor records. She also owns eight OAC Championship records and was a four-time OAC Most Valuable Performer and three-time USTFCCCA Division III Great Lakes Regional Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Off the track, Winters was a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American and a Dean's List student. She was BW's 2016 Clyde Lamb and Outstanding Female Senior Athlete award winner and a 2016 NCAA Division III Woman of the Year Division III Collegiate Women Sports Awards/Honda Athlete of the Year for track and field nominee.
The creative writing major from Stow, Ohio, and graduate of Stow-Munroe Falls High School is coached by Alumni Athletics Hall of Famer Jeff Petersmeyer '96 and is taking another step forward in fulfilling her lifelong goal of competing for the red, white and blue.
