Baldwin Wallace's ninth-ranked women's basketball team is advancing to the sectional round of the NCAA Division III Tournament after defeating the University of Chicago.
With the 60-58 win, BW will be in its first NCAA "Sweet 16" since the 2013-14 season and its fifth overall in program history. The Yellow Jackets also tied their single-season program record for wins to 28.
The team will travel to Holland, Michigan, to play Hope College on Friday, March 13, at 7 p.m. EDT. Live statistics and live video will be available for fans to follow the game.
The winning basket came as the Yellow Jackets, who were trailing by a point, had less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation. A three-pointer by BW junior forward Sydney Diedrich brought the home crowd to their feet in triumph.
For BW women's basketball coach Cheri Harrer, the victory adds to an already impressive list of successes at BW. She is the second-winningest women's basketball coach in the history of the Ohio Athletic Conference and a 2017 inductee into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.
Harrer, who is a familiar face in post-season play, summed up her thoughts about the win in a Cleveland.com article about the game.
"I feel a little pressure that we need to make some noise just to prove to people that our league is really good and is deserving of more than one team in this tournament. For us to win this and move on, hopefully, it makes a statement for our league."
