For the second year in a row, the Baldwin Wallace student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) earned a SHRM Superior Merit Award for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The annual SHRM Merit Awards recognize chapters for excellence in chapter programming and operations, support of and connection to the local HR community, SHRM engagement and upholding of the organization's values.
In addition to this top honor for the chapter, Gwyn Dubel '19, chapter president, received the Outstanding Leader of the Year Award at the 2018 BW Student Life and Leadership Awards.
The BW chapter of SHRM continues to grow and to send representatives to national events.
In June, Dubel and fellow members Alli Zarlinga '20 and Emma Hubbard '21 attended the SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago. This is the first time BW has been represented at this conference.
"I am beyond grateful to have attended the SHRM Annual Conference because I gained knowledge on more aspects of human resources that I may not have been able to learn in a classroom setting or textbook," said Zarlinga.
At the conference, the students were able to network with international HR leaders, listen to speakers such as Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and New York Times bestselling author Adam Grant and attend sessions focusing on different aspects of HR and professional development.
Another highlight was their appearance in a SHRM Facebook Live segment along with alumnus Jaelen Hollinger '17, representing the Cleveland Foundation at the conference.
"Our student chapter of SHRM is so thankful to have attended the annual conference and exposition and make connections in the international HR community," Dubel shared.
