Alumna utilizes Spanish and accounting degree at Cleveland Clinic

Photo of Jennifer JourilesJennifer Jouriles '16, who graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and Spanish, is putting her experiences from both of her majors to work as an accountant at the Cleveland Clinic.

"I currently work with capital and property at the Clinic," said Jouriles, "assisting in the valuation of assets across the enterprise, from requisition to disposal and everything in between."

Since the Cleveland Clinic is involved in international outreach, Jouriles is also able to use her Spanish degree in order to interact with a wider range of people around the world.

Cleveland to Honduras

Jouriles recently traveled to Nuevo Paraíso, Honduras, for a medical mission trip as a part of her work with the Cleveland Clinic. Jouriles was able to use her mastery of Spanish to serve as a medical interpreter during the trip.

"We collaborated with local doctors and nurses to bring primary care and medications to over 1,000 patients," Jouriles explained.

Student experiences

While a student at BW, Jouriles worked as an intern at The Sherwin-Williams Company. Jouriles helped with communications between the headquarters in Cleveland and the office branch in Mexico City as an intern for the Latin American Financial Shared Services department.

During her time at BW, Jouriles also had the opportunity to conduct and present research across disciplines, including diverse topics such as virtual reality and Mexican women's literature. Jouriles says she is "grateful for the overwhelming support from faculty mentors across departments" which she received while at BW.

International communications

In both her intern position at Sherwin-Williams and her current position at the Cleveland Clinic, Jouriles' degree in Spanish has enabled her to travel and engage in business communications with individuals from various Spanish-speaking nations. In addition to her time in Honduras, Jouriles has worked with individuals from several different countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico.
