Dr. Dale Sheptak brings a wealth of knowledge in the sports industry with over 25 years of experience in the start-up and administration of sports-related businesses. In addition to starting and owning two sports-related companies, he has consulted on the formation and re-engineering of many others ranging from youth sports to health clubs and athletic facilities. He has presented both nationally and internationally on the role of volunteers in sports organizations, event management and policy, and issues in youth sport.
Prior to joining the faculty at Baldwin Wallace University, Sheptak worked at Lake Erie College. While at Lake Erie College he served in multiple roles, including dean of the school of education and professional studies, associate professor of sport management & sociology, associate director of athletics, and head coach of the men's soccer team. Sheptak is an active member of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS) and the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM).
Sheptak's research focuses on the role of sport in education and how and if sport adds or detracts from the education system’s role of preparing young people for life and work. He also focuses on what he calls the "commodification of youth athletes" and how youth sport as a business model is changing the way we coach and develop young athletes. He is also active in researching sport spectator deviance and human resources in sport management.
