Ophelia Shan

Ophelia Shan (单良) earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from Xinghai Conservatory (China) and Oklahoma City University, then focused her education and career on collaborative piano and received her performance diploma from Cleveland Institute of Music under Anita Pontremoli.

She has served at Ashland University, Oklahoma City University and Southern Nazarene University as staff pianist, and has been actively involved in community outreach and cultural activities in Northeast Ohio since 2014.

As a collaborative pianist, Shan has performed with Great Lakes Light Opera, Cleveland Ballet, Red River Lyric Opera, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Opera Breve Vocal Intensive, BW Singers and Cuyahoga Falls Community Chorus working with renowned musicians and directors such as Dr. Stephen Dubberly, Copeland Woodruff and Don Marrazzo.

She has played in many master classes, including Nelita True, Lynn Harrell, Frederick von Stade, Jennifer Koh, Matti Hirvonen, Joshua Roman, Eric Larson and Melody Moore, as well as working frequently with studios of the Cleveland Orchestra members. As an educator and concert pianist, her open classes, seminars and performances have been recorded and broadcast in China and the U.S.

While continuing her performing career, Shan is currently a staff pianist at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Performing Arts. She also has her own studio in Brunswick, Ohio, primarily working with adult and advanced piano students. Shan served as festival co-chair and treasurer of Northeast Ohio Music Teachers Association and is currently vice president of the organization working closely with the board to collaborate with Piano Cleveland hosting joined events to continue to benefit the Northeast Ohio piano community.
