Dr. Whitney Mannies is an assistant professor in the department of politics and global citizenship at Baldwin Wallace University. She teaches courses in political theory and the history of political thought. She received her Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Riverside, where her research concentrated on modern political thought (particularly the French Enlightenment), eighteenth-century French feminism, and the intersection of political theory and literature. Her dissertation investigated the consequences of the style and form of texts for political and philosophical knowledge.
Her recent publications consider the transnational exchanges, both real and imagined, that shaped Enlightenment political ideals. These include "Persia in L’Encyclopedie," in her co-edited volume in the Oxford Studies in the Enlightenment series, Persia and the Enlightenment (2021); and "The Periodical as Transnational Salon: Marie-Jeanne Lheritier’s L’Erudition Enjouee" in Eighteenth-Century Studies (2020).
