Dr. David Disabato has interests in clinical, health and positive psychology and is passionate about evidence-based practices that can improve mental health. He values the evidence that scientific research can provide and enjoys getting students involved in his research.
His research focus is understanding how to increase well-being in individuals with psychopathology and chronic illnesses.
During graduate school, he studied the measurement of well-being and helped develop self-report questionnaires for assessing personality strengths. During post-doc, he studied daily positive emotions and health behaviors using experience sampling methodology to uncover mechanisms towards well-being. Near the end of his training, he began investigating optimal well-being in the aftermath of psychopathology and identifying people who fully recover from emotional disorders.
He received a quantitative concentration during graduate school from statistical coursework and has attended several external statistical workshops. He enjoys using the statistical software R, has taught multiple R workshops and has created an R package for pre-processing questionnaire data.
