Dr. Xudong Chen is professor of finance at Baldwin Wallace University. A dedicated educator, he has received the Exemplary Teacher Award co-sponsored by Baldwin Wallace University and the United Methodist Church general board of higher education and ministry, and the Excellent Educator Award by Ohio Magazine in 2012. In 2014, he was honored with BW's prestigious Strosacker Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2016 he was awarded BW's Bechberger Award for Human Development.
Chen received a doctorate in economics from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2006. He previously studied economics in Xiamen University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1997 and a Master of Arts in 2000. Prior to joining BW in 2007, Chen was teaching at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.
Chen's research areas include development economics, environmental economics, game theory and the economy of China with additional interests in economics education and sports economics. His research appears in a number of journals, including China Economic Review, Energy Economics, International Journal of Social Economics, Southwestern Journal of Economics, Journal of International Trade, International Business, and International Economics and Trade Research.
In the summer of 2013 Chen led a team of four BW undergraduate students on a research trip to China sponsored by the ASIANetwork Freeman Foundation Student-Faculty Fellows Program. In 2016, Chen was selected as ASIANetwork Faculty Enhancement Program "Global Cities, Local Memories" seminar participant and traveled to Japan in June. Chen was also faculty innovation fellow at BW's Center for Innovation and Growth between 2015 and 2016. Prior to joining BW he did consulting work for the World Food Programme, World Vision and Development Information Services International.
