Powered by Bloomberg and located on the first floor Kamm Hall, the Business Research Center provides students with expert access to global financial markets.
This dynamic workspace houses 12 dual-monitor terminals that are equipped with Bloomberg Professional, the software platform that has become the industry standard in the financial sectors of business.
Students have full access to the same data and technology that are used by business professionals to make real-world decisions. The platform also offers a global news service, electronic trading tools, multiple analytics features, job listings and a certification program.
Bloomberg Professional also enables students to manage their own investment portfolios and retirement accounts for themselves or their parents.
The Bloomberg terminals are fully integrated into the finance and accounting curricula, however, students across campus are able to use the BRC to achieve the Bloomberg Market Concepts certification.
BLOOMBERG MARKET CONCEPTS CERTIFICATION
The Bloomberg Market Concepts certification is highly valued in the financial industry. This certification can be obtained in ACC 245, a class designed to give students the Bloomberg Market Concepts certification, as well as a basic Microsoft Excel certification. The certification program takes approximately eight hours to complete.
ACCESS TO DYNAMIC, GLOBAL DATA
The Bloomberg terminals bring the New York Stock Exchange to Berea, providing important financial data and ratios as well as vital information about how any publicly traded company functions.
The terminals provide historical data, as well as predictive data to forecast the future. They also provide insights into a company's finances, organization of employees and the C-suite -- even the size of its carbon footprint!
Economic information, such as a country's Gross Domestic Product can also be found in the research terminals. For example, if a student was conducting a project on the environmental behavior of a company, the research terminals will provide extensive information and resources on the topic.
BW's student-led Investment Club uses the software to manage a real, six-figure endowment account. The experience students gain from acquiring this certification as well as obtaining the knowledge of the platform will help them stand out in a highly competitive job market.
ALUMNI GIFT
The addition of the Bloomberg Business Research Center and Bloomberg terminals were made possible by a generous gift from BW Trustee and School of Business alumnus Stephen Boesel '68. Boesel is a retired president and investment committee chair for the T. Rowe Price Associates Growth and Income Fund and Capital Appreciation Fund. Boesel wanted business students to have access to real-time data that professional business analysts and investors use.
