Music Emphasis Programs

Emphasis programs may be added to most Conservatory majors to provide more intensive, focused, and experiential study of a particular area of music. Courses taken for an emphasis program that are not required in the student’s major also satisfy the Music Electives component of the program of study. Application and approval required.

Afro-Centric Music Emphasis
The Afro-Centric Music Emphasis may be pursued by any music major.
Required Courses:
Arts Management Emphasis
The Arts Management Emphasis may be pursued by any music major except those majoring in Arts Mangement.

Composition Emphasis
The Composition Emphasis may be pursued by any BM or BME student except those majoring in Music Composition.
Required Courses:
Contemporary Media Emphasis
The Contemporary Media Emphasis may be pursued by any music major.
Required Courses:
Jazz Emphasis
The Jazz Emphasis may be pursued by any music major.
Required Courses:
Music History Emphasis
The Music History Emphasis may be pursued by any BM or BME student except those majoring in Music Theory or Music History & Literature.

Music Industry Emphasis
The Music Industry Emphasis may be pursued by any music major except those majoring in Music Industry.
Required Courses:
Music Theatre Emphasis
The Music Theatre Emphasis may be pursued by any performing arts major except those majoring in Music Theatre.
Music Theory Emphasis
The Music Theory Emphasis may be pursued by any BM or BME student except those majoring in Music Theory or Music History & Literature.
Required Courses:
Popular Music Emphasis
The Popular Music Emphasis may be pursued by any BM or BME major.
Vocal Pedagogy Emphasis
The Vocal Emphasis may be pursued by any music major.
