Baldwin Wallace University Advisory

About BW's Emergency Alert System

Baldwin Wallace University issues timely safety alerts and advisories to students, faculty and staff through email and text notifications. BW uses Rave Alert to distribute email and text alerts.

  • All BW students, faculty and staff are automatically opted in to receive email alerts through their BW email account.
  • Students and employees are opted in for emergency text alerts (unless they request to be opted out) during their onboarding process. It is strongly recommended that all students and employees opt in to receive emergency text alerts on their mobile devices.
  • Parents and family of students and local residents and businesses can also opt in for emergency email and text alerts.

Learn more about opt-in settings for Rave Alerts.

Types of Email and Text Nofications

  • An advisory with timely information in situations such as a class cancellation due to weather or a campus power outage
  • An emergency alert with an urgent notification about a significant emergency or other situation affecting health and safety on campus.

Additional Communication Channels

The most urgent notifications are also posted to the BW home page and shared via BW social media and with Cleveland media. However, the best and fastest way to get accurate information is through Rave alerts sent through emails and texts.

Helpful Details

During an ongoing emergency alert situation, please remember that it can take time to verify the facts and provide the campus with instructions and updates. Do NOT call 911 or BW Safety & Security for general information. Rave alerts and the communication channels above will be used to provide new details as quickly as possible.

When a campus closure or class cancellation is under consideration, a team of University leaders weighs a variety of factors and will only cancel classes when absolutely necessary. Like most workplaces in Northeast Ohio, it's rare for BW to close for snow or other inclement weather. As you would for a commute to any job, please be prepared to allow extra time to get to your destination when weather or other conditions necessitate reduced speed and extra caution.
