Chisomo Selemani

Chisomo Selemani is a certified speech-language pathologist and associate professor of the communication sciences and disorders (CSD) program. She is passionate about working with students in the developmental stages of their education and career. In the undergraduate CSD program she teaches introductory courses (i.e., Introduction to Communication Disorders and Speech-language Development). In addition, she participates in the university-wide first-year experience program. At the graduate level, she co-teaches Integrations, a series of courses designed to bridge theoretical and practical knowledge in communication sciences and disorders. She is a clinical supervisor, providing speech therapy services in the BW Speech Clinic and outreach programs. Her current research interests include literacy acquisition and low socio-economic status, multilingualism and English literacy development, and language and literacy development among multilingual children in Zambia, Africa. Further, she has presented at a number of local, national, and international conferences, including the East African International Conference on Communication Disability. At the end of 2015, she was named the Zambian Ambassador for the Next Einstein Forum, a pan-African organization created with a mission to raise the profile of the sciences in Africa. Selemani has coordinated the Zambia, Africa, study abroad program for BW's speech-language pathology graduate students.
