The Baldwin Wallace string department's highest priority is to inspire in each student an enthusiasm for making great music. The artists on our faculty draw upon their extensive experiences to assist students in achieving their full techinical potential and discovering their individual artistic identities.
Intelligent, creative, and secure performance, along with the ability to make sophisticated critical judgments are fostered in lessons, chamber music, and orchestra. Skills are tested in numerous performance venues, ranging from studio classes, departmental recitals, master classes, concerts, and degree recitals, to competitive auditions and a concerto competition.
As one of the few major music conservatories in the United States that enrolls only undergraduate students, Baldwin Wallace is able to involve every student in our string department's many activities throughout their studies.
In addition, students have the opportunity to thoroughly immerse themselves by attending frequent concerts on and off campus. Numerous guest artists visit BW to give performances, master classes and workshops, and our own faculty members perform regularly on our campus. Furthermore, students benefit from residing in the Cleveland area, a superb and rich musical center where many of the world's leading artists peform every year.
Our aim is to provide the solid preparation students need to embark upon varied careers in music. Our graduates have active careers as members of professional orchestras, music educators, conductors, music therapists, college faculty members, music business executives, arts administrators and private teachers.
