Parent and Family Schedule

FRIDAY

8:00am – 9:45am: CHECK IN

Ernsthausen Hall (Residence Hall located on the corner of Tressel Street and Center Street)
While your student is checking in, stop by the Parent & Family Check In table. There is information available for you to pick up including schedules, meal tickets, and more!

After you check in at Ernsthausen:

  • Staff members are looking forward to meeting you at the Bonds Hall Open House, 8:30 am to 9:45 am. Lots of great information and a chance to win door prizes are available to those who attend this popular event!

10:00am – 10:30am: WELCOME (Required for All New Students)

John Patrick Theatre / Kleist Art & Drama Center (Located on Bagley Road next to Finnie Stadium)

10:30am – 11:30am: ACADEMIC CORE (Required for All New Students)

Students and families will learn about BW’s programs for academic advising and support, and will be introduced to liberal arts and the core curriculum, including our common course, Enduring Questions for an Intercultural World.

11:00am – 12:00pm: Conservatory Break Out

Conservatory Students and Families will move to one of our second floor classrooms in the Kleist Art & Drama Center to discuss the Conservatory requirements for all new Conservatory students.

11:30am – 12:30pm: LUNCH*

Strosacker Hall Ballroom
Students will be eating in the same location, but not the same exact time.
*Conservatory Families can head to lunch after their breakout session.

1:00pm– 2:00pm: PARENT & FAMILY SESSION: YOUR PART IN THE BW EXPERIENCE

Learn about a useful tool where your student will intentionally plan the BW Experience. The BW Action Plan will enhance employability and satisfaction in college. Also, learn of other ways in which Baldwin Wallace University is helping to assist and prepare your student during his/her time here!

2:15pm – 2:45pm: RESPONSIBLE CHOICES (Required for All New Students)

Start off your college career on the right foot by becoming familiar with situations in which you will have to make responsible choices.

3:00pm – 5:00pm: Break Out Sessions (Required for All New Students)

Spend your afternoon in sessions geared towards your interests as a new BW student.

**PLEASE NOTE: All students are required to attend a CAREER SERVICES Session during one of the time slots.

Sessions take place during the following time slots. ALL Sessions are available at each of the time slots.

  • 3:00pm – 3:30pm

  • 3:40pm – 4:10pm

  • 4:20pm – 4:50pm

Career Services (Required for All New Students)

Steer your student’s future with Career Services. Attend this interactive session presented by the Office of Career Services to learn about the many resources available to help your student explore, choose, and navigate his/her career future.

4-Year Guarantee

Room: Sandstone 1 / Lower Level of Strosacker Union
At many universities, more than half of the students take five or six or more years to earn a bachelor’s degree. At Baldwin Wallace, we guarantee your student will graduate in four, or we will pay the tuition for the extra time it takes your student to finish. BW is offering its Graduation Guarantee as a way to help families avoid higher education costs associated with postponed graduation.

College 101: First Year Experience

Room: Sandstone 2 / Lower Level of Strosacker Union
COL 101 is a two-credit hour, graded course offered in the fall semester. It is designed to enhance the transition to Baldwin Wallace University for new, first-year students. During the course, your student will be introduced to the expectations of college and familiarized with the requisite skills for success in college and beyond. Each section of COL 101 is taught by an experienced instructor who is a member of the BW faculty or staff. In addition, each section has a Course Assistant (CA). Many of the CA’s have already taken the course and are present to assist your student with his/her journey through his/her first year at BW. Student Employment

Room: Grindstone / Main Level of Strosacker Union
If you are interested in learning more about the BW Work Study options, attend this session to understand how your student can apply for Work Study positions on campus and how that works with your student’s Work Study financial package.

Financial Aid

Room: Quarry / Lower Level of Strosacker Union
Come and listen to information on Financial Aid & Billing so you can be better prepared to understand your aid package and the BW billing procedures. There will also be an opportunity for one on one time with a Financial Aid staff member on Saturday morning. See Saturday’s schedule for details!

If you are interested in working on campus, stop by the Student Employment Center table to take care of any paperwork you need to submit. Staff will be available to answer questions.

Are you still undecided on your major? That’s perfectly OK! But we have some resources you can look through if you want to start exploring your options.

9:30am - 10:00am: STUDY ABROAD/EXPLORATIONS PRESENTATION

Imagine your student receiving college credit while studying in Japan, England, Australia, Italy or Argentina. How about interning in Washington D.C. or traveling across the U.S. with a professor and fellow BW students? Does it sound too good to be true? Think again. The Explorations/Study Abroad Office can assist your student in planning an affordable program almost anywhere in the world. This could possibly change your student’s life and yours. Stop by the session and learn more.

10:30am - 11:15am: RESIDENCE LIFE PRESENTATION

Are you ready for your student to live in a residence hall on campus? Do you want to know what your student should bring? Have your questions answered about your student’s living environment.

10:30am - 11:00am: COMMUTER SERVICES PRESENTATION

Does your student commute to campus for class and know where to find good parking spaces and know where they can hang out in between classes? Does your student want to know how to meet other commuters as well as resident students? Well, the Office of Commuter Services has these answers and more. Come hear about our services, programs, leadership opportunities and great ways to get involved in campus life!

11:20am – 11:50am: FRATERNITY & SORORITY LIFE PRESENTATION

Students and Families will have a chance to meet the advisors of several Greek organizations on our campus. The advisors will be able to answer questions and quell fears brought on by Greek Life stereotypes.

10:00am – 12:00pm: RESOURCE FAIR

10:30am – 12:45pm: CHECK OUT

PLEASE NOTE: Check out cannot begin until 10:30am due to staff availability. Students have to attend their advising appointment and fill out an evaluation before checking out.

PARENTS/FAMILY MEMBERS:
