What is your favorite quote?
ʺWhy fit in when you were born to stand out?ʺ -Dr. Seuss
What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?
When I first came to college, I really didn't know what to expect because I am the first in my family to go to college but I was always worried about getting involved in too much and have my grades suffer as a result. That first semester I was playing soccer and joined Greek Life and never did anything outside of that and spent a lot of time sitting in my room doing nothing. After that first semester I realized that I could assert myself and make more of my experience if I used my time better rather than doing nothing in my room. At this point, I have found that happy medium of being involved, getting school work done and having some time to myself to just relax.
How did you choose your major?
Growing up, my brother and I both played a lot of soccer. I was a good brother and went to all of his games and some of his practices and some nights would help my dad coach their team. After a few of practices, I knew that I like working with kids and that was something I wanted to do. Also in school I really enjoyed both math and science so I put those two together and chose Middle Childhood Education.
What has been your best experience at BW so far?
The one thing that stands out as one of my best experiences is joining Greek Life. When I first came to BW, I really wasn't that interested in going Greek, but after learning more about each fraternity and what they represented I found the atmosphere was something I really wanted to be part of.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
I spend a lot of time in the Student Life Center. It's a nice place to get some homework done if I want to get out of my room but don't want to walk to the library.
What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?
Matthew Perry. After watching him in The Ron Clark Story and in the series FRIENDS, I think that his sense of humor and ability to snap back and have real moments really mirrors my personality.
What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?
Before my first week of school, my parents both reminded me not to be afraid to step outside of my comfort zone and try new stuff. So far I've enjoyed everything I've been involved in and look for any opportunities to try new things.
No two experiences will be the same, but many will be identical. Listen to the advice other people have to give you because they've done something similar, but know what works for you. College is a fresh start, make the most of it!
