What is your favorite quote?

"I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it." - Maya Angelou

What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?

My biggest mistake as a freshman was not utilizing the many resources available on Baldwin Wallace's campus. I learned that I could receive tremendous help in classes that I was struggling with by going to the learning center, so I know now that I will make it a priority to become familiar with the resources on campus.

How did you choose your major?

I chose Criminal Justice as my major because it is an academic field as well as an interactive field. I naturally like helping people. I have patience and I have great communication skills. I knew I wanted to major in a field where I will be able to utilize these skills and make an impact in my community whether it's huge or small.

What has been you best experience at BW so far?

My best experience at BW so far has been being a member of the Voices of Praise Gospel choir. I've met so many wonderful people and created a family at BW where I know I will never be alone and I always have someone to talk to. The spiritual and social support has helped me grow as an individual.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus is the Cyber Cafe.

What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?

Taraji P. Henson would play the role of me in a movie because she has a very strong personality, great sense of humor, she's beautiful, and tough.

What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?

The best advice given to me from my family was, "Doanise, do not let any of your classes intimidate you."

Final Word:

The first year of college is definitely what you make it. If you have great time management it will make your year more flexible and organized. Every student should definitely invest in a planner to stay organized. College can be stressful but if you surround yourself with positive friends and positive activities you will walk away from your first year with less stress. I know I did! The main part of being a college student is to stay FOCUSED!
