What was your biggest mistake as a first year student? What did you learn from that experience?
My biggest mistake as a first year was taking on too much. I was at a point where I was spread thin between countless different organizations and clubs, helping tutor students in my classes, having a social life, and also doing well on my own school work. I was burnt out and stressed, and I needed to learn how to say ʺno.ʺ When I realized this was an issue, I re-evaluated what I was involved in and better managed my time to the organizations I felt I could contribute the most to. I also got a planner so I could better keep track of free time, and time I could use to help others.
How did you choose your major?
When I came to college my first year I was undecided, so I wanted to take a variety of different core courses to help me figure out what I excelled at, and where my interests were. I thought I wanted to be a Studio Art major, but after taking some classes I realized that it was much more of a hobby for me than an occupation. Through this experience, I found that I really enjoyed business and marketing classes. I was also curious about the Public Relations major so I took the intro class and realized I loved it. Now I am a Marketing and Public Relations double major, and couldn't be happier!
What has been your best experience at BW so far?
The best experience so far has been being a part of the Weekend of Welcome Orientation team last summer. It was so much fun getting to meet the incoming students, and also spend time bonding with the staff. It was so rewarding helping others, and also sharing my experiences at Baldwin Wallace. It really made me appreciate being a part of the Baldwin Wallace community and encouraged me to continue to be a leader!
What is your favorite spot on campus?
The Cyber Cafe in the downstairs of the union is probably my favorite spot. You can always catch me working on homework, meeting friends, or working on group projects there. It's always a lively place with lots of people passing by to say ʺHiʺ to, and catch up with. Every morning you can see me down there drinking my large coffee with soy.
What movie star would play the role of you in a movie? Why?
I would hope that Jennifer Lawrence would play me in a movie. Besides being an incredible actress, she has such a fun and independent spirit about her which I love. She just seems down to earth, with just enough sarcasm and laughter that seems relatable to myself.
What was the best advice given to you by your parents or family members during your first year?
My parents told me to try new things. College is a time where you can have a fresh start with so many opportunities, so I was encouraged not to pass it up! They also told me to not sweat the small stuff. Sometimes you make mistakes, and that's okay! College is a time for learning, so don't be afraid to fail sometimes.
Get involved! Finding something that interests you is what college is all about, so don't be afraid to try new things and step outside your comfort zone. You are likely to make new friends, learn more about yourself, and find many connections and opportunities by putting yourself out there. There are many things that if you told me in high school I'd being doing now, I would not believe you. Therefore, don't hold yourself back and take advantage of this fresh start!
