The following information will provide you with an overview of the Resident Assistant (RA) Selection Process & what being an RA at BW entails. Please note - the application is a PDF file that can be filled out and saved just like a Word document. Applications can be submitted by completing the application, saving a copy of it with your name in the file name, and then e-mailing the application, letter of interest, resume and the answers to the essay questions as attachments to raselect@bw.edu. Alternatively, you can complete the items as indicated above and instead of submitting via email, print out all four documents and submit them to the Office of Residence Life.
Regardless of how you submit your application materials, you must ask a Residence Life Staff member to complete a reference and submit it on your behalf. You just need to ask - the staff members have the forms and the instructions for completing and submitting them.

What are the minimum qualifications to apply to be a Resident Assistant?
► Cumulative GPA of 2.50
► Must be a matriculated, full-time undergraduate student with no less than 12 credit hours and no
more than 18 credit hours per semester
► Must be in good student conduct standing
► May be a commuter or residential student
What is a Resident Assistant?
A Resident Assistant (RA) is a student staff member of the Office of Residence Life. The RA shares the responsibility for implementing the basic goals of the Office of Residence Life by promoting individual and community development through educational and social programs. The RA reports directly to the Hall Director and works collaboratively with the Area Coordinator, Assistant Director and Director of Residence Life. The Resident Assistant role consists of several components including being a campus resource to residents, a peer counselor, a community builder, and assisting with both College and Residential Life policy enforcement. Resident Assistants are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner both on campus, in Berea and surrounding communities. Given the high standards of this position, it is essential that a RA possess a genuine concern for others, inspires respect, establishes a good example in attitude & behavior and communicates well with others.
What are the terms of employment?
Resident Assistants are required to attend RA Training which begins in mid-August until all job requirements are completed after resident check-out in May. This includes hall openings, closings and potentially holidays (Fall Break, Thanksgiving & Easter). All RA's are asked not to be involved in more than 20 hours a week in outside activities which include but are not limited to athletics, student organizations & clubs, or employment both on or off campus. All 1st year RA's must complete the College 228 course (Leadership Education & Development) which is offered only in the fall semester.
Compensation
| ► Stipend: | New Staff members currently receives $265 per semester Returning Staff members currently receive $340 per semester |

What does the RA Selection Process entail?
| 1. Information Session | Spring Semester offers two dates for Information Sessions: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 9:30 pm in the Lang Hall lounge & Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 9:30 pm in the Carmel Hall 2nd floor classroom. |
| 2. RA Candidate Social: | January 29, 2013 from 8-10pm in Ernsthausen - Attendance is not required, but strongly encouraged to allow you to learn more about the individual halls. |
| 3. Application: | Complete and submit to the Office of Residence Life by February 4, 2013 at 5:00 pm |
| 4. Individual and Group Process Interviews: |
Applicants who meet minimum qualifications & are selected by the RA Recruitment & Selection Committee to continue in the process will be required to attend the Group Process and Individual Interview day on February 16, 2013. You will need to rank your preference for the morning or afternoon session on your application. |
| 5. Email notification: | All candidates will be notified via email of their status in the process after initial grade and conduct checks and after the Individual and Group Process Interview day. All contact will be via your official BW email. |
