Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) Program
The Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) at Baldwin Wallace University meets with student-athletes who wish to improve their academic standing, study skills or have any school, sport or personal issues that they would like to discuss. The SAM has a broad-based referral system throughout campus including Health and Counseling Services, Career Services, The Learning Center, and The Writing Center to name a few. The SAM also works with the Jacket Individualized Study Program (JISP). Any student-athlete interested in seeking assistance may contact the SAM at the number or email below or stop by during office hours posted on the office door.
The SAM is also a member of the Athletic Department and a liaison member of the Student Affairs staff of Baldwin Wallace University and works directly with the Athletic Director and coaches. The SAM is responsible for implementing the basic goals of the Athletic Program and the Student Affairs Division by promoting individual and community development. The role of the SAM is made up of several components: supervisor, counselor, advisor and recruiter.
The SAM encourages social and developmental programming for student-athletes to meet individual needs. The SAM also informs student-athletes of events and activities occurring on campus. The SAM is responsible for coordinating the annual Student-Athlete/Faculty Recognition Luncheon and serves as the co-advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
