2011-12 School Year Gets Underway as BW Welcomes New Students

A dynamic group of 670 incoming freshmen and 150 new transfer students began their studies on Monday, Aug. 29.

The students are a diverse group with regard to backgrounds, academic interests, talents and recognitions.

In addition to outstanding scholastic achievement, the students have impressive accomplishments in leadership, service and extracurricular involvement.

Over 200 are National Merit scholars, National Honor Society inductees, valedictorians and student body/class presidents.

In addition, the group has 12 Eagle Scouts, seven Girl Scout Gold/Silver Award recipients and six Concert Masters/Mistresses. The student body also includes 160 music ensemble participants and 91 marching band revelers.

With regard to athletics, the College welcomed 317 varsity sport participants, with 109 of them being captains and 60 being All-Star, All-State or All-Region.

Twenty percent are out-of-state students, with the majority coming from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Florida. In addition, 18 percent are students of color.
