Is an Immersion Course right for you?

1. My need to take an Immersion course is:

high- I need it immediately for a degree, job, or other important reason.

moderate- I could take it on campus later or substitute another course.

low- it is a personal interest that could be postponed.
Being highly motivated to take the course will help you succeed!

2. I would classify myself as someone who:

often gets things done ahead of time.

needs reminding to get things done on time.

puts things off until the last minute.
An immersion format class goes really fast!  You must be willing to make school and studying a priority during that time period. 

3. As a reader, I would classify myself as:

good- I usually understand the text without help.

average- I sometimes need help to understand the text.

below average- I often need help to understand the text.
Immersions require that you do a lot of reading up front - before the class even begins.  A lot of the work initially is self-directed.

4. I would classify myself as someone who:

has a good attention span - can stay focused for extended time periods.

has a fair attention span - as long as tasks are broken up a bit.

gets bored easily - three hour classes are the limit!
Some Immersions consist of 5 eight-hour days.  Although the day is broken up into group and hands-on activities - a student must be willing and able to focus for extended time periods.

5. I enjoy learning:

when I participate in discussions/activities and work in groups.

when I have the option to participate in class activities.

in a traditional style format - lecture.
Most Immersions require students to participate and interact with the instructor as well as other students.

 Immersion courses are an excellent opportunity for students who fit the above characteristics.  This quiz should be used to assist students and should not be used as a sole determinant for taking an Immersion course.  If you have questions or need further assistance in determining if an Immersion is right for you, please contact your academic advisor.
