The Baldwin Wallace University Women's Tennis Team Ends a Record-Breaking Season in 2004-2005
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team ended a record-breaking season in 2004-2005. And, if you think Head Coach Jack Bethlenfalvy is excited about this year, you're right. And he's even more excited about next year when his entire starting lineup is back!
The Yellow Jackets finished the season with a school-record 19 victories, were 19-6 overall and had an 8-1 mark during the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season.
"We had an outstanding season," said Bethlenfalvy, who surpassed the 200-win mark in his career and is now 208-157 for his 19-year tenure. "Each player improved her skills, we had fun and we won. Although we have everyone back next year, we will still need to improve again if we want to win a conference title. There also is room for incoming players (recruits) to make us even better and deeper."
Highlighting the year was the play of sophomore number one singles and doubles player Andrea Isaac (New Philadelphia). Isaac set a single-season school-record with 22 singles wins en route to a 22-5 mark. Isaac was the 2004 OAC Player of the Year as a freshman and twice earned OAC Player of the Week accolades this year. Isaac also teammed with freshman Meggie Glassburn (Canton/ Jackson) to set a school-record with 22 doubles wins as the tandem finished 22-6 overall.
In addition in singles play, Glassburn had a 15-9 slate, including a 12-8 mark at No.2. Freshman Tiffany Allison (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston), who also earned OAC Player of the Week honors once this spring, was 17-8 overall, including 13-4 at No.3. Junior Ashley Sanders (North Canton/ Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas), who tied for third all-time this spring with 19 wins, was 19-8 overall, including 14-8 at No.4 and 5-0 at No.3. Freshman Krista Marshall (Medina/ Senior) and junior Lizz Moore (Huron/ Senior) rounded out the usual starting lineup. In addition to Isaac and Glassburn in doubles, Allison and Marshall had a 17-4 slate, including a 10-1 mark at No.3.
