Yellow Jacket Women’s Soccer Team Falls to #12 Otterbein, 1-0, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women’s soccer team lost 1-0 this evening (Saturday, October 10, 2009) versus Ohio Athletic Conference rival and 12th-ranked (ncsaa.com) Otterbein College at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium in Berea.
With the loss, BW falls to 5-7-2 overall and 1-2 in the OAC and returns to action this Tuesday, October 13 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to play OAC rival Ohio Northern University at 4:00 p.m. Otterbein improves to 11-1-0 and 3-0 in the OAC with the win.
After a scoreless first half, Otterbein scored the only goal of the match when Adrienne Novak’s shot from the right side of the box found the back of the net at 51:19. The goal was assisted by OC’s Carly Dent. Otterbein held off the Jacket attack for the remainder of the game to earn the 1-0 result. The BW offense was led by senior All-OAC defender/midfielder Stephanie Geiger (Berea) who had four shots, including two on goal.
In goal, sophomore Meagan McLaughlin (Warren/Cardinal Mooney) faced 13 shots and made seven saves.
Overall, Otterbein outshot BW, 13-7 and the Cardinals won the corner kick battle, 9-1.
After Tuesday’s game at ONU, BW next plays on Saturday, October 17 when they host Muskingum University at 5:00 p.m. as part of a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader in Berea. The October 17 BW versus Muskingum University football game and that evening's soccer doubleheader versus Muskingum ALL will be broadcast by SportsTime Ohio. The soccer matches will air on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., respectively, and again on Monday, Oct. 19 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
