BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the annual Sparky Adams Meet today (Saturday, April 21, 2012) at The George Finnie Stadium. The meet consisted of athletes from 20 NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as two junior colleges.
The women were led by sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) who placed first in the high jump clearing five feet two and a half inches. In addition, senior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/ Catholic Central) placed third overall in the shot put but was first among Division III athletes with a throw of 42’8”, She finished fourth overall and first among Division III athletes in the hammer with a mark of 157’4”.
In the running events, the women were led by junior Kaylan Lemon (Canton /Massillon Perry)who finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.42 seconds. Lemon was also a member of the third place 4 x 100-meter relay team consisting of junior Brittany Sterling (Lima), seniorLauren Nanni (Parma/Padua Franciscan) and sophomore Shaquella Greeno (Lima). They finished with a time of 49.73 seconds. In the 3, 000-meter run, senior Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa. /Monaca Center) finished third overall and first among Division III athletes in a time of 11:09.64.
The Yellow Jacket men were led by junior Division III All-American thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) won the discus and shot put with throws of 169 feet and one inch and 53 feet and nine inches respectively. He also placed third in the hammer but was first among collegiate competitors in the hammer with a throw of 177-feet and two inches. In addition, junior Jake Buckey (Geneva) finished first in the javelin with a throw of 168-feet and one inch while junior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) took second in the discus with a throw of 159 feet and five inches.
In the running events, the men were lead by sophomore Cory Lanterman (Streetsboro) who place second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter in times of 11.02 and 22.02 respectively. Also sophomore Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) finished third in the 100-meter dash crossing the finish line in 11.09 seconds. In addition, freshman Dannie Mack (Massillon/Washington) took home second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.05.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Friday and Saturday, April 27-28 when they travel to Wilmington to compete in the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Wilmington College at Beckett Track & Field Facility.
