BW Trackster Compete on Second Day of Coastal Carolina Meet
MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA -- A number of Baldwin Wallace University track and field student-athletes competed today (Saturday, March 10, 2012) on the second and final day of the Annual Coastal Carolina University Snowbird Invitational. The meet includes 47 schools from Division I, II, III, NAIA and the Junior College ranks.
The women were lead by sophomore Victoria Brown (Berlin Heights/ Western Reserve) in the field events, placing tenth in the womens high jump with a height of 5’1”.
For the women’s track events, sophomore Blair Vrcan (Mentor) lead the way finishing seventh with a time of 13:06.56. Senior Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield/Medina Buckeye) followed behind her finishing eighth with 13:13.37, and sophomore Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/Midview) finished 10th with a time of 13:37.89. In the women’s 4x400, the team of junior Kaylan Lemon (Canton/Massillon Perry), and sophomores Brooke Hradisky (Aurora), Jamie Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/South) and Nicole Smith (Geneva), finished ninth with a time of 4:11.12.
In the men’s track events, the team of sophomores Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye), Josiah Holt (Elyria/ Midview), and Kevin Johnson (Garfield Heights/St. Ignatius), and senior Mike Smith (Wintersville/ Indian Creek), placed seventh in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 42.87. In the 4x100 meter run, the team of four freshman Alex Nagy (Baldwinville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker), Cody Smith (Brunswick), Ryan Weir (Lodi/ Cloverleaf), and Alex Evers (Middlefield/Berkshire) finished seventh with a time of 1:34.47. In the 10k run, junior Kenneth Janosko (Mentor) finished third with a time of 31:24.23, and senior Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/Calvert) finished ninth with a time of 33:46.68. For the 200 meter dash, senior Mike Smith finished eighth crossing the finish line at 22.23 seconds. In the 3K steeplechase, senior Andrew Beck (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) finished fourth with a time of 9:54.38 and sophomore Dusan Vasic (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished right behind him in fifth crossing the line at 10:08.80
For the men’s field events, senior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./Delone Catholic) finished fifth in the shot put posting a distance of 50’11.5”.
Yesterday the women were led by freshman Nicole Christner (Minerva) turned in the best performance as she placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet and one and three-quarter inches (16’1.75”). In the 10,000-meter run, junior Shaina Kovatch (Parma/ Valley Forge) placed sixth in 38:36.59 and senior Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center) was ninth in 39:12.47. In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Hutka placed 16th with a time of 19:50.23 and freshman Diusica Vasic (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) placed 21st in 20:54.85. In the javelin throw, Brown placed 32nd with a toss of 88’7”. In the hammer throw, sophomore Alex Shaw (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Bishop Canevin) placed 39th with a throw of 98’3”.
For the men, Beck placed 18th in the 5,000-meter run in 16:02.86 and freshman Greg Blevins (Mentor) was 19th in 16:03.65.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, March 16-17, when they compete at the annual University of North Carolina Charlotte 49er Invitational Meet.
