The 15th-Ranked Baldwin Wallace University Men's Soccer Team Falls at Muskingum, 2-1
BEREA, OHIO -- The 15th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team fell to Muskingum College, 2-1, today (Saturday, October 21) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in New Concord, Ohio. The loss kept the Yellow Jackets from tying the school single-season record for victories. In addition, Muskingum's two goals marked the first time this season that the Yellow Jackets allowed two goals to an opponent.
With their loss, the Yellow-Jackets are 13-2-1 overall and 5-2 in the OAC and fell out of first place. With the win, the Muskies are now 9-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the OAC.
Muskingum scored the only goal of the first half when Drew United found the back of the net at the 10:00 minute mark. The score was 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 1-1 when junior All-OAC forward Matt Pietro (Canfield) scored at the 53-minute mark with an assist from junior All-OAC forward Brian Sugerman (Akron/Richfield Revere).
Muskingum's final goal came at the 77-minute mark when Tim Marcinek scored the game-winner with an assist from Adam Mitchell.
In goal, sophomore Alex Stavros (Fairlawn/ Copley) allowed two goals while facing 15 shots and had five saves.
The 2006 OAC Tournament begins on Wednesday, November 1. The OAC Championship Game is on Saturday, November 4 and the winner of the OAC Tournament receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
