10th-Ranked Baldwin Wallace University Men's Soccer Team is Upset by OAC Rival Mt. Union, 1-0

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was upset by Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College, 1-0, in the OAC opener for the Yellow Jackets today (Saturday, September 30, 2006) at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.  It was the second game of a Community Day/ Night tripleheader at Finnie.
 
The game-winning goal was scored at the 39:47 mark of the first half when senior midfielder Axel Sandoval scored on a pass from senior forward Tevor Beach.  Overall, BW outshot Mt. Union, 22-5, and 9-2 in corner kicks, but could not get the ball past Mt. Union senior goalie Eric Sebor.
 
In goal, Yellow Jacket sophomore Alex Stavros (Fairlawn/ Copley) played all 90 minutes and faced five Purple Raider shots, allowed one goal and made two saves.  He suffered his first loss of the season.  Mt. Union's Sebor faced 22 BW shots and was credited with nine saves en route to the shutout.
 
With its loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 8-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.  With its win, Mt. Union evened its record at 4-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.  The Yellow Jacket men next play on Wednesday, October 4 when they host OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in Berea at Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
 
Following its game against JCU on Wednesday, the BW men will travel to Columbus next Saturday, Oct. 7 for a game at OAC rival Capital University.
