Every Wednesday night after my Astronomy night class I sit myself down in the third floor North Hall lounge and call my family in Alaska. It has become something of a tradition in the Stone family. My mom expects my call and while she’s making dinner (keep in mind that we are four hours ahead in Ohio, so if I call at nine o’clock our time it is really five o’clock.
When I call my family, I get to tell them everything about my week to that point. They pass the phone around and I get to hear about the highlights of my sister’s ups and downs in high school and my brother’s escapades in middle school. My mom talks about her Calculus BC class and how they are doing with their material and my dad tells me how the woodstove is heating up nowadays. Yes, this all may sound dull and small talky, but it is one of the highlights of my week.
