I am on the executive board of an organization on campus called Order of Omega. This organization is an honors society for students in fraternities and sororities and we focus on scholarship, leadership and service. This past weekend we walked around the streets that border Baldwin Wallace and the residential areas of Berea and picked up trash as a service to the community. This was a simple and easy way for us to help improve the community. Over my time at BW I have learned that service does not need to be some huge project, and that it can be done in small ways.
At first I was not looking forward to doing this because it didn’t seem like the ideal way to spend part of my Sunday. However, it ended up being really fun! We had great weather and the time passed quickly. There were a few of us from the group so we were able to cover the area in about an hour, which was much shorter than we had thought. It was nice to see that we were helping to make an impact but was also somewhat upsetting to see how much trash there was to be picked up.
