Last night I went to a lecture, but it wasn't just any old boring lecture, it was a lecture from someone who actually stood by Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement. C.T. Vivian is a Baptist minister, educator, and Civil Rights Movement icon. He was Dr. King's personal advisor and organized demonstrations during the campaigns. Vivian gave a wonderful lecture in front of the BW students explaining what culture was like back then and how it was different from today. He stated "before Martin Luther King Jr. it was a mean, cruel, and distorted world." I just can't imagine living in a culture where racism was okay. I'm just thankful for Dr. King, and all the people who opened their mouth when the felt something was wrong. I'm also glad I got to meet and speak with someone who is probably one of the last people that is left who was involved in that movement. I'm so glad I stayed longer to get his autograph. Very very inspiring!
