This past week was the last week of classes for the fall semester, before a week of finals. For Music Theatre students it is also the week of many tech and dress rehearsals for the MT senior recitals. All fifteen forty-five minute long recitals were held over a span of just three days, two weeknights and the remaining eight consumed the entire day Saturday. This all began just after Carousel closed. All freshman are required to attend all concerts and sophomores and juniors must tech for the concerts and attend as well.
I was assigned to help out Ian Gregory Hill with tech by pulling curtains and removing a few props. Ian's went off without a hitch, as did the rest of the recitals from what I could see! There were some wonderful surprises from BWMT14, the biggest one to me was Alyssa Easterly, who blew me away with some of the best rep and a dance number to "Bottom of the River" by Delta Rae. There are specific requirements for the recitals, but each senior is allowed and encouraged to choose meaningful songs which they truly love, and you could really tell this group did. This is the MT's opportunity to basically host their own personal cabarets and to show and communicate their growth as an artist, since the beginning of freshman year at BW. I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw and have already become inspired to start planning MY senior recital!
