SUMMER AUDITIONS

This was an exciting week for our Music Theatre Workshop classes. First on Tuesday, we had our second round summer stock auditions, this time with Jim Beaudry,  artistic director at Timberlake Playhouse in Illinois. Many past BW-ers have gone to Timberlake for summer stock and had a blast. It's a lot like camp but you're getting paid and there's no counselors, just directors. Timberlake has a great season this summer, so I was hoping to nail my audition but, as has been with nearly every audition since I've been at BW, I was sick with congestion in my chest.  However, this time I told myself it was not going to affect my audition, and the mind over matter philosophy prevailed.

I had a great initial audition and was also called back specifically for the role of Inga in Young Frankenstein. The other big shows of the season are Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Les Miserables, so several of my classmates were called back for roles in those shows as well.  Jim ran his callbacks quick and simply and we did them in front of each other unlike how the New London auditions were. He either asked to hear the monologue again in which we'd have to modify it with an accent or different objective or he asked a few to sing from the scores of the shows. I was asked to do my monologue again with a non descript Eastern European accent like that of Inga in Young Frankenstein. After that Jim lead a super brief dance call and we were done!  It was a really pressure free fun audition experience.  Unfortunately our fearless leader Victoria Bussert is across the pond in Denmark opening the European premiere of the Lizzie Borden Musical at the Frederica Teater. No big. Until she's back we'll be working with Ms Jodi Dominick (Ms. Gardner in Carrie) on cold reading from plays to build up our quick thinking "go big or go home" callback chops which is really relevant since we're in the midst of tons of auditions. I get to put my skills to the test over Spring Break when I'm at Pace for StrawHats!  Also, hoping I get to see the people who nailed the callback and booked the job on the Great White Way. 'Rocky the Musical' will be open by the time I'm there...The Eye of The Tiger yes please!
