Fyoo zh en

Today was our first day of tech week for the 2013 Spring Dance Concert, Fyoo zh en, pronounced "fusion," meaning a fusion of art forms to make an entire performance.  The objective of dance concert is to bring student composers and choreographers together to create a piece with all original material, ours was based on a poem by Pablo Neruda. Ellis Dawson, the choreographer, and myself (co-choreographer) were paired with composer, Danny English, for our piece.  We based our dance on the word "blossom" from our Neruda poem.  Thus came the title: Blossom of Blue.  Our piece is seven minutes long, featuring six dancers including myself and expresses nuances of our original idea, of being held down and oppressed, through the use of long lines and quick punchy body movements.  I've had so much fun collaborating with only peers and knowing the quality of the product we've produced is as good as if we had been led by our teachers.  I can't wait for everyone to see the work Ellis and everyone else did when the concert opens this Thursday February 28th at 7:30 with additional shows, March 1 & 2 at 7:30 and Sunday March 3rd at 2:00, in the John Patrick Theatre, Kleist Center for Art & Drama.  For further information call the Box Office at: (440) 826-2240
