Wednesday April 25th is Anzac day for Australians and New Zealanders. It is a public holiday somewhat like our Memorial Day to remember those lost and in Australia and New Zealand’s first participation since World War 1. Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. I had originally planned to go with my Australian roommate to a dawn service at 5:00am the time when the soldiers first landed on Gallipoli peninsula but we ended up sleeping in. I woke up early and watched two hours about ceremonies across the country and about the history which I learned a ton from. While in Melbourne we came upon the Shrine of Remembrance a beautiful large memorial sight for those Australia’s lost in war and for all of those who participated and this was on a large part of the news and a ton of people were there to remember those lost. The shrine was very solemn while we were there and the images of full gathering space on the 25th was very powerful.
