Service Learning Project

As a part of some of the classes here at BW, we have a service learning  component. What that means is that you take time outside of class to do a service or volunteering project out in the community that has to do with something you are learning.

The class I’m taking is called Ethics: Invisible Americans. We are learning about marginalized groups in America, ranging from prisoners to Native Americans. Our class was split up into small groups,  and my group was chosen to go to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center. It’s actually a really nice building!

Our project goal is to work with a group of girls who is at their residential facility and to lead group discussions and create activities for them to do that would be helpful. So far we’re planning on doing a session on college and what it’s like and also maybe helping them learn to cook some basic stuff and nutritional information.

We just had our orientation yesterday and we meet the girls next week! I’m excited!
