Fact Sheet for Physical Education Major(HPET)
Potential employment for Physical Education majors:
The major is designed on theoretical and practical knowledge and skills related to the planning, implementation and evaluation of physical education programs for learners ages three through twenty-one and pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. A Multi-Age License(K-12) to teach physical education is possible for students who successfully complete this major as well as applicable requirements for licensure as outlined by the Division of Education.
What is unique about the BW Physical Education program?
Baldwin Wallace University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Individual programs also are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the Commission of Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
The faculty in the Division of Health and Physical Education along with the Division of Education are committed to the development of a strong performance-based program of teacher education with curriculum structured on a theme of "Teacher as Reflective Decision Maker."
Physical Education student organization:
Students are encouraged to become involved in the Division of Education student organization: Teaching Together, which is a non-discipline specific organization.
Almost all professional education courses and many physical education courses have planned field experiences. Students are expected to spend time in schools at the elementary and secondary levels and in urban, suburban and rural locations. Student teaching is also a requirement for licensure. Placements for student teaching are made by the Division of Education.
Tips for academic success in Physical Education:
Students are encouraged to supplement their licensure with a secondary teaching area such as health promotion and education(HPEH). Students who desire to coach are encouraged to complete the athletic coaching minor.
