Programs of Study
The Chemistry Major
In addition to the required courses in chemistry, students choose electives from specific areas of chemistry including: biochemistry, instrumentation, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry.
Option 1 - ACS Certified Degree follows a pattern of study based on the recommendations of the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society for the ACS certified degree. A certified degree in chemistry is a valuable personal credential that serves as recognition for completing a rigorous academic chemistry curriculum in an ACS-approved department.
Option 2 - B.S. degree in chemistry prepares students for graduate work in chemistry or professional schools of medicine, dentistry or engineering. Careers in industry may also be pursued.
A copy of the suggested sequence of classes is available from the Chemistry Department Secretary by calling 440-826-2312.
